Mr. Pray’s 2019-2020 Professional Growth Goal

Initial thoughts: How can I be a better 6th grade science teacher?  How can I be better so my students find more success and happiness in 6th grade science?

Specific C to target in goal: Clarify

Goal 1: Sharing clear success criteria for student work and provide specific feedback based on that criteria.

What does that mean?

For the time being I would like to focus my professional growth on one goal that I can clearly begin to work on and improve.  After student surveys come out in October I will reflect on the students responses and decide on adding an additional goal based on their feedback.

Specifically for this goal I want to improve on the feedback I give to students to help them understand how they are doing in science and what they can do to improve on particular learning strands.  In science we have four learning standards so for particular assignments I will target 1 to 2 of those maximum so students can better see where they are in their understanding within those strands.

I will be more timely on feedback and specific in my feedback so students are more clear with how they can improve.  This may include rubrics as well as sharing examples of exemplary student work and “beginning” student work after an assignment so students can see how they may model their peers to improve.
