Lani and I completed the Weekly Planner together, as we will be planning for EY4 Monolingual together. Our blog post will be similar as well as we keep in close contact for planning. We focused on the first week of school, which for EY4 is online. Obviously, we kept in mind that not long after, we will be working closely with our Instructional Partners and of course our Teacher Assistants (we will be working with them online as well, just differently).
I chose Care and Classroom management to reflect upon for the 5 C’s of online learning. During the first month of any given school year, and particularly during these times, it is essential in the early years to focus on the social emotional element and establishing routines which makes our students feel safe, secure, and confident.
Lani and I discussed the importance of keeping things simple for the EY4 students, as they are generally scared during the first few weeks of school. We also discussed our desire to talk with the parents, see them on screen, as we (their children and the teachers!) will need their help. We are also looking forward to getting to know the parents as well as our students.
CARE-I establish care by:
-Having face to face Zoom time daily with our new students and parents.
-Having a soft toy present with teachers, that we can use each time we meet as a puppet for greetings or questions for social emotional purposes.
-Having the students have their own soft toys present for comfort and confidence.
-We will highlight the feeling ‘happy’ during the first week, and introduce one feeling per week, basing our screencasts and literacy around this topic.
Since we are beginning online and will continue to use an online environment during Partnered Instruction, we will start to establish the Norms for Online Meetings with our EY parents/students.
Planner will be modified after further team meetings this week.
